The Capel Huskies have been awarded over $200 to purchase new basketballs for their junior team. Part of the Dardanup basketball association, the Huskies had previously relied on using old balls that varied in size – with the kids having to lug them to school for the day – before McDonald’s were able to donate a set of new basketballs for the team to use.
Coach Sophie Camarri was thrilled to be awarded the grant and with finally enough numbers to register a team, she is looking forward to improving the skills and athleticism of her players.
“The grant has enabled us to purchase new basketballs which improves the teams skills and in turn, improves their confidence in the sport,” Sophie said.
The MJSG initiative provides funding for junior sporting clubs and school groups across WA to purchase much needed equipment or facilitate activities to increase participation in sport and encourage healthy, active lifestyles.
Over the last ten years McDonald’s has granted more than $600,000 and supported over 550 sporting groups and schools across WA through its MJSG program.
